Scales are boring! Learn them this way and have a lot more fun.

Updated: Jan 13, 2024

Guitarists love to practise their pentatonic scales. After all, they are the best scales to use for classic blues rock solos. But learning scales can be more musical and fun when you combine chords with scale fragments to make short musical riffs that you can use later.. or when one of your relatives says "Go on then, play me something".

This is a very easy to grasp example of how I teach first position A minor pentatonic with open chords in the same key: Am, Dm and Em.

I take this concept much further as my students progress, but it really is a fantastic way to start to learn scales. 🤘🎸😁
